Thalpe Walawwa villa is a 75-year-old, beautifully restored Manor House Set amidst a ten-acre Organic coconut estate and is located just a ten minutes drive away from the pristine beaches of Unawatuna and Thalpe. It’s so close you could hear the lapping of the ocean from the garden. The historic Dutch Fort of Galle is only twenty minutes away. The Tranquil setting and unbounded privacy at the Main House, as well as the secluded Garden Villa, helps you relax and unwind from the moment of entering the premises of Thalpe Walawwa.
Thalpe Walawwa has been home to a family of southern aristocracy which took up to business with the turn of the 20th Century and has been the childhood residence of a socialist leader who went on to become a member of the cabinet and the present Governor of Southern Province who was also a former Minister.
It has been visited by several Prime Ministers including Rt.Hon. Dudley Senanayake, Prime Minister four times from 1950 to 1969 and the first woman Prime Minister of the world Madam Sirimavo R.D. Bandaranaike and has been the venue for many a political discussion which considerably altered the direction of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) from time to time. Constructed before the 2nd World War, it has weathered the tests of time and stands beautifully restored and refurbished whilst protecting its traditional architecture of English influence.
